The University of Aberdeen's Balinese Gamelan Ensemble has been selected to perform at Lokananta: The Gamelan of the Gods - an all-night shadow puppet play with traditional and new music performed by gamelan groups from across Britain. The festival celebrates 30 years of York's Javanese gamelan, Sekar Petak.
A new all-night wayang kulit (shadowpuppet play) will take place, weaving together myth, legend and folktales aboutmusic from the island of Java with the modern story of gamelan in Britain.
Members of the Aberdeenensemble (Sophie Radcliffe, Emma Wilson, Joe Stollery, Jessica Russell, EilidhMcColm, Fiona Hunnisett, Graeme Robertson and Ross Whyte) will be performingtheir own compositions as well as traditional Balinese pieces.
