Postgraduate Composers' Collective

The PG Composers' Collective has been set up as a support group for postgraduate composition students. In fortnighly meetings we share skills and share our work in a network of friendly colleagues. This group is open for all postgraduate taught and research students in the Department of Music at the University of Aberdeen, be they choral, instrumental, sound art, electronic, jazz or traditional composers. Conductors' Collective

The Conductors' Collective is an informal forum at the University of Aberdeen for all staff and students who have an interest in conducting and musical direction of both instrumental groups and choirs. Young (or young at heart) emerging conductors or more experienced directors are invited to share their experiences with colleagues in Aberdeen. All interested non-conductors are of course welcome. Elphinstone Institute

Staff in the Department of Music work closely with colleagues in the Elphinstone Institute, which has research strengths in ethnomusicology, particularly relating to vernacular music in Scotland and music among the Scottish diaspora. The broader work of the Institute is focussed on the traditions of the North and the North-East of Scotland, and the ethnographic methods employed by researchers in the Institute complement those of staff within the Department of Music.
