Ian is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists and a member of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple.
Called to the Bar in 2006, Ian now earns a living as an employment lawyer. Before studying law, Ian held successive posts at Manchester, Bristol, Clifton and Gloucester cathedrals, and was Director of Music of Gloucester City Benefice from 2002 until 2008.
Ian has performed throughout the UK and twice toured the USA, drawing praise for a "dazzling technique and colouristic imagination". European venues have included La Trinité, Paris, Portugal's Oporto Cathedral, and the Saalkirche in Ingelheim, Germany. Ian has broadcast on television and radio, and made several CD recordings, his disc of French organ music from Gloucester Cathedral winning five stars in BBC Music Magazine.
