The Centre for Modern Thought is focusing increasingly on its pedagogical mission by offering sustained training for PhD students (following a format common in North America and Europe, where distinguished professors lecture on a weekly basis). Our ambition is to create a vital intellectual community for students who are also pursuing individual research projects and to offer them continuing training. We believe that students will benefit significantly from research-led teaching and collaborative work beyond the first year of post-graduate study, where most teaching remains introductory. The last seminar (led by Professor Fynsk and focusing on Kant and Heidegger) has brought together students from all levels of post-graduate study, as well as interested staff. The CMT thus offers a unique site for study in the British system of higher education.
