Management
- Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is a heterogeneous group of diseases.
- The section on management will only describe treatement of the two commonest lymphomas,
diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and follicular lymphoma.
Diffuse large B-cell lymphomas is a useful example for management of high grade lymphomas [4]. General principles:
- Stage 1 and 2 disease are treated with anthracylin-based chemotherapy e.g. CHOP, followed by involved field radiation therapy.
- Stage 3 and 4 is treated solely with chemotherapy, anthracyclin based e.g. CHOP as well as Rituximab.
- Further chemotherapy is given to patients who fail on initial treatment.
- Salavage treatment, for patients who relapse or who show no initial response, is with high dose chemotherapy with autologous stem cell rescue.
