Management
- The initial part of management should always include informing the patient.
- The patient should have the diagnosis and its natural history explained.
- The treatment options and side-effects should be presented to the patient.
- Care should be taken not to overwhelm the patient when the diagnosis is first discussed.
- For this reason it is also important that verbal information is repeated again in subsequent appointments
with the patient as it is difficult for the patient to take in all the information given at the inital appointment.
- Written information must also be given.
