The immune system is comprised of a group of cells, molecules and receptors that work together in order to protect the body. A major component of the immune system is the lymphatic system. This is composed of the lymphoid organs such as the bone marrow, spleen, and thymus gland, as well as the lymph nodes, lymphatic vessels and lymphatic ducts. There are also collections of lymphatic tissue located within mucosal membranes, such as the gut and respiratory tract. In addition to the lymphatic system described above, there are specialised blood cells that work within the immune system.
