History and Examination
You are the admitting house surgeon one Friday evening when a 45-year-old lady, Mrs Bond, is admitted to you with upper abdominal pain. These are the
relevant findings:
From the history
- she has a four day history of upper abdominal pain, mainly central/right upper quadrant
- there is no radiation of the pain
- the pain sometimes comes and goes
- the pain is associated with nausea
From the examination
- her temperature is normal
- her blood pressure is 180/100
- she has a tiny scar in her right upper quadrant and below her umbilicus
- she has tenderness in the epigastrium and right upper quadrant
When you notice the scars you ask about previous operations. She says that she had a laparascopic cholecystectomy four weeks ago.
