Post CABG Recovery
Post op ICU:
- 24 hours close monitoring then 24 hours in HDU care followed by 5-7 days ward care usually.
Long term cardio-protective medications:
- Antiplatelets (Aspirin alone or dual if infarct or very poor targets), statins, ACEI, B-blockers, and other drugs to reduce myocardial work.
Cardiac rehabilitation programme:
- Multi-disciplinary team approach to Cardiac Rehabilitation with nurses, physiotherapy and others with programme designed to optimise recovery.
Promote secondary prevention:
- Smoking cessation, improvement of diet, weight management.
Clinic review:
- Single post-operative review at Cardiothoracic review clinic to check symptom resolution, exercise tolerance, wounds and sternal healing, heart rate and rhythm and to finalise medication changes.
- (Echo not required for CABG routinely unless specific indication).
