All donors must undergo a full health check and a blood test (to check haemoglobin levels) before they donate blood to determine their eligibility.
Donors are generally required to be of good health, have suitable veins, be aged between 17-65 years and must weigh between 50-158 kgs.
Certain health conditions preclude becoming a donor (eg: most cancers, heart conditions, HepB/C, HIV). Other conditions mean donors may have to wait before donating blood: up to 3 months to donate if they have had pre/post-exposure prophylaxis in the past 3 months.
