In the case of catastrophic haemorrhage, it is normal practice to skip steps 1 and 2 and go straight to using a tourniquet for haemorrhage control.
It is important to apply the tourniquet before the onset of shock - 96% survival rate if applied before, 4% survival rate if applied after.
