The Augmented Leads
We are studying the 12 lead ECG. So far, using the 10 leads that we have attached, we only have 9 views of the heart to look at (3 limb leads and 6 chest leads).
(Remember that the black lead on the right leg does not give any readings)
The other three views come from what are called the 'augmented leads'. These look at electrical activity of the heart in the direction from Wilson's central terminal (negative end), to each of the three limb leads respectively (red, yellow and green).
These augmented leads are named according to which limb lead they look towards e.g. aVleft (aVL), aVright (aVR) and aVfoot (aVF).
