Use this section if you have no prior knowledge of ECGs, how they work or how to set them up. This map will take you through the basic physics and anatomy, set up of the ECG and will touch on interpretation.
- Be able to describe the anatomy of the electrical conducting system of the heart
- Be able to correctly set up the limb leads and chest leads when performing an ECG
- Identify the P-wave, QRS complex, T-wave and U-wave in a normal ECG
- Understand what the PR interval, QT interval and ST segment correspond to and state their normal length of time
- Be able to measure heart rate from the ECG
- Be able to recognise normal sinus rhythm, sinus tachycardia and sinus bradycardia
- Understand the ARI BAR method of ECG interpretation
