Clinical Signs / Symptoms
- The most sensitive sign of ACS = Pain
- Pain out of proportion to the injury
- Pain that is resistant to analgesia
- Extreme pain on passive extension of the muscle bound within a compartment
- In children, increasing analgesia requirement is a strong indicator of ACS
- Pay special attention to observations in the multiply injured or sedated patients as they are unable to outwardly demonstrate pain
