Severe Dyskaryosis
Severely dyskaryotic cells show many of the features of neoplastic cells.
- The nuclei are enlarged, darkly staining and have an irregular margin. The chromatin within the nucleus may also show the characteristic staining seen here.
- The presence or absence of these features together with the number of cells affected is the basis of staging a smear as showing mild, moderate or severe dyskaryosis.
