A severely dyskaryotic smear usually means there is underlying CIN. Colposcopy is therefore required to examine the cervix directly.
Biopsies may be taken and sent for histological evaluation. LLETZ or cold coagulation treatments are colposcopic treatments that may be necessary later.
Radiotherapy is a treatment method for invasive disease NOT CIN.
Routine recall would be offered if the smear was normal. A repeat smear in 6 months would be offered if the smear showed borderline or mild dyskaryosis.
An appointment at the colposcopy clinic has been arranged for Mrs Ashe.
