Can this patient give consent?
Sorry, that is incorrect. Please try again
No. The patient is confused and therefore will not fulfill the requisites for consent (ability to understand the procedure, weigh up the options, retain the information and communicate his decision). Therefore he needs to be treated based on his best interests, as judged by the medical team. His family should be contacted and informed of the necessary management. They can input into decision making, but ultimately the decision needs to be made by the medical team and the patient should not be delayed for theatre. If the family voice strong disagreement towards surgery then the medical team should discuss with a medicolegal team.
