Control of Ventilation - Central
Ventilation is mainly controlled by chemoreceptors.
Central Chemoreceptors
- Located in the medulla oblongata
- Detect changes in the pCO2
- Increased pCO2 causes an increase in ventilation so more CO2 is exhaled
- Decreased pCO2 causes a decrease in ventilation so less CO2 is exhaled
Central Chemoreceptors = CO2
