Monitoring

The aim of supplemental oxygen is to maintain oxygen saturations within the target range at the lowest possible oxygen dose.

This requires regular monitoring of the SpO2.

For most patients this should be at least every 4 hours during the day and night.

Alwaysd record whether the patient is breathing room air or oxygen and what device is used.

For patients at risk of T2RF (hypercapnic failure) use the correct section of the NEWS chart when recording observations.

! Any patient of oxygen should remain on oxygen during any treatments or transfers.
