- Her chest X-ray showed that the right hemithorax was opacified
- Parapneumonic empyema was suspected and confirmed on insertion of an intercostal drain which yielded 2 litres of frank pus
- The post drainage chest X-ray showed poor re-expansion of the underlying lung.
