The diuresis evoked by the thiazides causes a reduction in circulating blood volume (hypovolaemia).
The effect of thiazide-induced diuresis in lowering blood pressure is transient because the hypovolaemia and hyponatraemia activate the renin-angiotensin system. The increased secretion of aldosterone tends to restore the blood volume and Na+ content. Click to see this.
