Outcome

Outcome:

Specialist Investigates
  • You refer the patient urgently to the dermatology clinic using an Urgent Suspected Cancer referral
  • This is appropriate as this skin lesion has several unusual features raised by history and ABCDE examination
  • The patient is seen within 4 weeks by a Consultant Dermatologist who is sufficiently concerned to perform an excision biopsy of the lesion at the clinic appointment
  • The patient is reviewed again once the biopsy result is available
  • The result reveals an atypical melanocytic naevus
  • The patient is counselled about being at increased overall risk of developing melanoma, the importance of checking their own skin and protecting themselves from UV rays then discharged back to your care
