Teeth
The existing teeth should be examined for gross abnormalities.
INSPECT:
- Buccal / front surface
- Lingual / tongue surface
- Occlusal / chewing surface
- Alveolar ridge for retained roots
PALPATE:
- Mobility of the tooth can be assessed by holding the tooth between the thumb and the forefinger. Mobility suggests periapical or periodontal pathology
PERCUSSION:
- Tenderness to percussion with a dental mirror may suggest dental pathology
NOTE:
- Mucosal swellings, draining sinuses, bleeding, mobility of grossly decayed teeth
