Floor of Mouth
Ask the patient to "point their tongue to the back of their throat."
INSPECT:
- Anterior part of the floor of mouth (FOM)
- Submandibular ducts
- Sublingual folds
- Posterior part of the floor of mouth. Do this by retracting the lateral border of the tongue with a spatula
PALPATE:
- Bimanually palpate the FOM to examine the submandibular and sublingual glands
NOTE:
- Site, size, shape, colour, contour, characteristics, tenderness of any lesions or swellings
- Mucosal bleeding, ulcers, plaques
