Buccal Mucosa
Retract the cheeks with a gauze swab or dental mirror to visualise the entire mucosal surface of the cheeks.
INSPECT:
- The entire buccal mucosa
- Parotid duct papilla, adjacent to the upper 2nd molar
PALPATE:
- Bimanually palpate any cheek masses or swellings
- Massage parotid gland to demonstrate salivary flow from parotid papilla
NOTE:
- Site, size, shape, colour, contour, characteristics, tenderness of any lesions or swellings
- Mucosal or gingival bleeding, ulcers
- Dryness of mucosa
