Which of the following is NOT erythema multiforme?
Well done, correct.
Erythema multiforme is a hypersensitivity reaction usually triggered by infections, commonly herpes simplex. It is characterised by target/ iris skin lesions. Oral mucosa may be involved in erythema multiforme major. The typical target lesion of erythema multiforme has a well-defined margin, is round in shape and comprised of three concentric coloured areas: (1) centre is dark red with a blister/ crust, (2) next ring is paler pink and raised due to oedema, (3) outermost ring is bright red.
Urticaria is characterised by itchy weals (hives). A weal is a superficial skin-coloured/ pale swelling of skin, usually surrounded by erythema that lasts up to 24 hours.
