Eczema herpeticum is a severe infection of the skin by herpes simplex virus 1 or 2 which is most commonly seen in children with atopic eczema. The rash is characterised by monomorphic punched-out erosions usually 1–3mm in diameter.
Herpes zoster (shingles) is a viral rash caused reactivation of varicella-zoster virus (VZV). It is charactered by blistering and painful rash caused in a localised dermatomal distribution.
