Lipomas are benign non-cancerous tumours made of fat cells. They slowly grow under the skin in the subcutaneous tissue over years. It is characteristically a mobile dome-shaped lump with a rubbery consistency.
Epidermoid cysts are benign keratin and lipid filled cysts derived from the upper part of the hair follicle. They characteristically appear as a small, firm, skin-coloured round papule or nodule fixed to the skin surface with a a central punctum. Foul-smelling “cheesy” debris may be expelled from the central punctum.
