Dermatofibromas are benign firm fibrous papules/ nodules usually found on the skin of the lower legs. It is characteristically tethered to the skin surface and mobile over subcutaneous tissue. Notably, the overlying skin dimples on pinching the lesion (dimple sign). Its colour varies from pink to light brown in lighter skin, to dark brown to black in darker skin.
A dermal naevus is a type of melanocytic naevus (mole). Moles are common benign skin lesions due to a local proliferation of pigment cells (melanocytes). A dermal naevus is characteristically a papule, plaque or nodule with a pedunculated or smooth surface.
