Dermatofibromas are benign firm fibrous papules/ nodules usually found on the skin of the lower legs. It is characteristically tethered to the skin surface and mobile over subcutaneous tissue. Notably, the overlying skin dimples on pinching the lesion (dimple sign). Its colour varies from pink to light brown in lighter skin, to dark brown to black in darker skin.
Lipomas are benign non-cancerous tumours made of fat cells. They slowly grow under the skin in the subcutaneous tissue over years. It is characteristically a mobile dome-shaped lump with a rubbery consistency.
