Pyogenic granuloma is a misnomer describing a benign proliferation of capillary blood vessels of the skin and oral cavity. It characteristically presents as a small painless red fleshy nodule that grows rapidly over a few weeks. Pyogenic granuloma is known to bleed easily with minor trauma.
Epidermoid cysts are benign keratin and lipid filled cysts derived from the upper part of the hair follicle. They characteristically appear as a small, firm, skin-coloured round papule or nodule fixed to the skin surface with a central punctum. Foul-smelling "cheesy" debris may be expelled from the central punctum.
