A Mysterious Rash in a Patient with Interstitial Lung Disease
PET (Positron Emission Tomography)
Chest radiograph noting stable interstital lung shadowing - it was unclear without the PET CT scan that the patient's sarcoidosis was still 'active' and required ongoing treatment
This is not a first (or indeed second!) line test but after discussion with a radiologist can sometimes be considered if:
Extra-pulmonary disease, notably neurosarcoidosis or cardiac sarcoidosis suspected
Assessing response to therapies e.g. a patient on potentially toxic therapy e.g. prednisolone + other immunosuppressants, to assess if their disease is still “active” or “burnt out”
