The Scottish Cancer Prevention Network (SCPN) is offering support (£300) to a student undertaking an elective relevant to cancer prevention or screening. Applicants are asked to describe how their elective work might be used as an opportunity to promote cancer risk reduction (e.g. through promotion and facilitation of tobacco and alcohol control, obesity prevention, diet and physical activity) and explore “teachable moments” for lifestyle change. Public health work focused on the obesogenic environment, cancer screening programmes or educational initiatives are of particular interest. Oncology electives which may involve the promotion of lifestyle change to cancer patients (secondary prevention) are also appropriate.
Applicants are required to
We would ask that the successful applicant write a short report (1500 words) on return from the elective to demonstrate increased understanding of the challenges and opportunities for promoting cancer prevention and/or screening behaviours (drawing on the evidence base from The European Code Against Cancer http://cancer-code-europe.iarc.fr/index.php/en/).
Closing date for applications is January 31st, 2019.
