An annual prize of £500 is awarded for the best proposal by a medical student for an elective prize in Primary Care/General Practice which includes audit or research.
How to enter
1. The RCGP/SAPC Elective Prize is awarded for the best Audit or research proposal submitted each year.
2. Applications are made by completing the attached form. Forms are acceptable only in typed format. If separate pages are needed, please refer to the same headings. Five copies should be sent to the Royal College of General Practitioners at the address below.
3. Applicants are strongly recommended to identify a supervisor (usually a member of an academic department of general practice/primary care who can give support and guidance on the completion of the form).
4. Adjudication of the prize takes place in two stages.
First Stage: applicants apply through their Department of General Practice/Primary Care; getting the form signed by the Head of Department). Each Department submits one overall application for national adjudication. (Closing date end of February each year).
Second Stage: National adjudication by Royal College of General Practitioners’ Awards Committee. (Closing Date end of March each year)
5. Applicants should not attach any supporting documents, CVs etc., as these will not be considered by the adjudicators.
6. The information given on applications will be used solely for the purpose of supporting the objectives of the RCGP in the administration of its awards. All data will be processed in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
7. Responses by post, fax or email are accepted. Applicants must follow up fax or email responses with five copies of the completed and signed application form.
8. The same piece of work can only be awarded one College award within a three year period.
9. An award condition is that the winner must submit a final report of the completed project of approximately 500 words within 6 months of the completion of the elective.
10. The Prize winner is invited to present their winning project, either as a poster or an oral presentation, at the Society for Academic Primary Care’s Annual Scientific Meeting.
11. Following adjudication of the awards and notification to the Departments of General Practice/Primary Care and applicants of the result, no further correspondence will be entered into relating to the adjudication process;
