The Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene offers an annual prize of £500 for an account of work carried out by a medical student of any nationality during an elective period spent in a tropical or developing country. In awarding this prize emphasis will be laid on the originality of the work and on its contribution to knowledge or understanding of tropical diseases. Particular weight will be given to projects that have been developed and carried out by the students themselves.
RULES
1. Two prizes of £500 may be awarded annually in recognition of outstanding projects which increase knowledge of tropical medicine and hygiene in the broadest sense. Abstracts of the winning reports may be published in the Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
2. Candidates shall be nominated by their head of department, supervisor or Dean, with a supporting statement of up to 500 words.
3. The closing date for receipt of project reports is 31st December. The project should have been completed in the previous twelve months.
4. A committee of three shall choose the prize winners.
5. The announcement ofthe prize winners will be made at the March meeting of the Society.
6. The prizes will be presented by the President ofthe Society at the Annual General Meeting in June or July.
7. Apply to the Administrator at the above address for an application form. Completed forms, project reports and supporting statements should be returned to the Administrator on or before 31st December.
