Certification
Before taking part in an OSCE examination, it is compulsory that examiners complete a short training course, so that they are certified to participate.
- The OSCE certification material covers the OSCE examination methodology, common issues encountered and their resolution, how to grade students and the operation of the OSCE marking app.
- It is important that examiners are certified to ensure consistent assessment of the clinical competence of students, to reduce any incidents that may hinder or delay the examination and disadvantage a student, and to provide assurance that in the event of a challenge to an examination result, that the examination has been conducted correctly.
- The certification process includes both reading and viewing video scenarios.
- The typical duration is around an hour and a half, although the required items do not all need to be viewed in one sitting and can be revisited in multiple sessions until complete.
