Chilkat blanket
Chilkat blankets are highly valued by northern Tlingit and Tsimshian people. Woven in yellow cedar bark and mountain goat wool by women from designs painted by men on a pattern board, the blankets were worn at ceremonial occasions to show the clan crest of their owner, suspended over graves or displayed inside a house. This blanket features a design known in English as the 'diving whale'.
