Argillite plates
Ornamental argillite platters were often decorated with rosettes, cross-hatching, floral and foliage designs. The designs resembled those used on American pressed glassware which became available on the Northwest coast during the early nineteenth century. These two plates were carved by a Haida artist using a compass and woodworking tools.
