In this talk, Professor Limon shares his research into an intriguing historical episode that links early modern Aberdeen and Gdansk.
This October we will welcome a distinguished visitor from the University of Gdansk. Professor Jerzy Limon will give a special talk for the Friends of the Library, organised by Aberdeen's Centre for Early Modern Studies. Limon, is a novelist, academic, and the man behind the construction of the Gdansk Shakespeare Theatre, based on his research into the seventeenth century Fencing School in Danzig (present day Gdansk), where English acting companies performed from the early seventeenth century. In this talk, 'King James VI and the Beheading Game', Professor Limon shares his research into an intriguing historical episode that links early modern Aberdeen and Gdansk. The tale of intrigue and espionage saw James VI enlist a Scottish agent along with one of the first principals of Aberdeen's Marischal College in a search for subversive texts that stretch across Eastern Europe.
