Research Interests

The department of Spanish and Latin American Studies cover a wide of array of research areas and interests, and welcomes inquiries by students wishing to undertake doctoral level study. We also welcome interdiciplinary research projects involving more than one department, as many of our staff have experiencing in interdisciplinary research. Dr Jesse Barker: Dr Jesse Barker's research focuses on 20th-21st century Spanish literature and culture, globalization, Internet and digital culture, and relations between virtual and physical spaces.
Dr María Sánchez: Dr María Sánchez who has experience as a professional translator and interpreter, researches Translation Studies, specifically translation theory and literary translation; audiovisual translation; Interpreting Studies, with a focus on pedagogical issues.
Professor Patience Schell: Professor Patience Schell's research focuses on nineteenth-century Chile and twentieth-century Mexico, including women's history, the history of science and museums, and the histories of sociability and education.
Dr Trevor Stack: Dr Trevor Stack has conducted years of anthropological fieldwork in Mexico and, more recently, California, focusing on citizenship and what it means to be a citizen in Mexico and California.
