Biography
Alan Warner is a Scottish writer and novelist who has published the following novels: Morvern Callar (1995), which won the Somerset Maugham Prize and was adapted for the cinema by director Lynne Ramsay in 2002. These Demented Lands (1997), which won the Encore Award. The Sopranos/Our Ladies, (1998), which won the Saltire Book of the Year Award. The novel has been adapted into a National Theatre of Scotland, Olivier Award-winning production which ran in the West End of London, and also a Sony Pictures adaptation:Our Ladies, directed by Michael Caton Jones in 2020. The Man Who Walks, (2002), The Worms Can Carry Me to Heaven (2006), The Stars in the Bright Sky (2010), which was longlisted for the 2010 Man Booker Prize, The Deadman's Pedal, (2012), which won the 2012 James Tait Black Memorial Prize. Their Lips Talk of Mischief, was published by Faber in 2014 and Kitchenly 434, will be published in 2021.
Alan was born in Oban on the west coast of Scotland in 1964. His parents were hoteliers and he attended Oban High School, Ealing College of Higher Education and The University of Glasgow where he wrote his MPhil thesis on Joseph Conrad.
Alan is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.

Research Overview
Alan is interested in Creative Writing research projects, (generally in prose), across all genres: especially literary fiction, short stories, or thriller, crime, fantasy, science fiction, memoir and non-fiction.
Current Research
Forthcoming fiction anthology, 'Seal Club' with Irvine Welsh and John King, due November 12 2020.
Forthcoming novel 'Kitchenly 434,' due from Orion in March 2021.
