The School of Language, Literature, Music and Visual Culture offers an ideal environment for you to enhance your skills and knowledge in one or more of our wide range of disciplines.
At undergraduate level , the School offers degrees in English, Creative Writing, Music, Language and Linguistics, Celtic and Anglo-Saxon Studies, Gaelic, Film and Visual Culture, Modern Languages (French and Francophone Studies, German Studies, Spanish and Latin American Studies), and Translation Studies. All our programmes are enriched by inspiring cross-disciplinary study, and in many cases you may choose to study two subjects as part of a joint honours programme. Additionally, as part of the University's Sustained Studies curriculum, we offer a range of language courses to students of all subjects; these include Arabic and Mandarin alongside Gaelic, French, German and Spanish.
At postgraduate level , we have a choice of around ten highly specialised degree programmes in which you can hone your professional and intellectual skills in the field of your choice. Many of these programmes include optional work placements to further enhance your employability, and most have a choice of start dates in September or January.
Every year we welcome international exchange students to study individual courses in the School. Courses are also often available to students studying in other Schools.
If you have any questions about the programmes or courses that you are interested in, your first point of call should be the School Office (llmvc.enquiries@abdn.ac.uk ). Our administrative team will be happy to hear from you, and in the rare instances where they cannot give you an answer themselves, they will be able to pass you on to someone who can.
I wish you all the very best for your studies ahead, and look forward to welcoming you to the University of Aberdeen.
Professor Chris Collins, Head of School
