Visiting scholar, Dr Jane McDermid, presents a snapshot of evenings out in Victorian Aberdeen.

Charles Dickens drew large audiences, of both men and women and across the social spectrum, on his tours of Aberdeen in 1858 and 1866, but what alternative attractions were there and how typical were his audiences?

This talk will set the enthusiasm for a recital by Dickens within the wider context of public social activities, presenting a snapshot of evenings out in Aberdeen.
