This is a past event
The second annual Montague Rhodes James Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Professor Francis Newton of Duke University.
Scotland has only three identified manuscripts written in the Beneventan script of Southern Italy and one of them, (MS 106), is one of Special Collections' oldest manuscripts. In this lecture, Professor Newton will discuss his analysis of these manuscripts, with emphasis on their calligraphic forms and his detailed study of their marginalia, to outline the course of the development of the Neapolitan script, from the early 10th century into the 11th century.
Free admission but booking advisable.
