Fail Better is an evening of avant-garde visual culture from two Modernist masters, with screenings 'Emak Bakia' by Man Ray, alongside 'Film' by Samuel Beckett.
The event is presented as preparation for a forthcoming screening of the award-winning documentary by Oskar Alegria The Search for Emak Bakia (2012), to be screened on campus in March. On Thursday 20 February at 6pm, two short avant-garde films will be screened and discussed at the Gallery at the Sir Duncan Rice Library Gallery: Man Ray's Emak Bakia, the basis of the Alegria’s documentary, and, Film (1965) written by Samuel Beckett, as a parallel piece. This event explores the ways in which creativity and failure interact, and questions if modernity is our antiquity.
These screenings will be accompanied by presentations from Dr Nerea Arruti from the Department of Hispanic Studies, Dr Paul Flaig and Prof Edward Welch from the Centre for Visual Culture. FREE, Booking advised.
