Dr. Elizabeth Curtis offers an insight into our contemporary understanding of the standing stones and circles that populate the landscape around Aberdeenshire from a historical perspective.

This event accompanies an exhibition that reveals the inspiration behind a sculpture marking the entrance to the Sir Duncan Rice Library. The work, entitled Waterlines, was created through the collaborative artistic partnership of Will Maclean and Marian Leven. The sculpture highlights Aberdeen’s maritime heritage, the marks excised in the monument show the draughtsman’s lines for the Thermopylae, one of the fastest of the clipper ships. The work also makes visual comment on the rich collections of sculptured standing stones that mark the Aberdeenshire landscape.
