Explore treasures from our collection of rare books and get up close to exquisite examples of illuminated manuscripts from medieval history and the Church.
As part of the programme of events celebrating the remarkable 10th-century Book of Deer returning to Aberdeenshire for the first time in a thousand years, the University of Aberdeen’s Special Collections are delighted to offer an opportunity to get up close to some of the treasures from its collections, including decorated manuscripts and early printed rarities.
Come along and chat to our curators and archivists as they show you the books.
The close-up will include a 12th century copy of Gregory the First’s Moralia in Job; the Golden Legend printed by William Caxton, England’s first printer; and a beautifully bound copy of a commentary on the Bible that belonged to Bishop William Elphinstone.
