Evening lecture from guest speaker Dr Alan Knox
MacGillivray’s CV would have been outstanding: the first professional ornithologist and ecologist, quoted and respected by Darwin, highly rated teacher, landmark publications, renowned friends including John James Audubon, impressive artist. But his life was one of personal hardship and disappointments, though even these brought him admiration amongst his students and companions. This son of Aberdeen had it tough but left an impressive scientific and social legacy, and collections that still surprise us.
This event is part of a programme of events supporting the 'Walking with Birds' exhibition in The Gallery.
