Taylor Library Transformation Project
2024-10-28

If you’ve been a regular in Taylor Library, you may have noticed some of the changes that have occurred over summer 2024 - we now have 36 brand new high-sided reader carrel individual study spaces in our Floor 1 silent area which are proving very popular and are working extremely well to promote silent study in the area. To make space for these we removed lots of older furniture, as well as several shelving units. Many duplicate copies of Law reports were removed to achieve this, and we also moved our Official Publications from that area up to Floor 2, which is now the home to our entire paper OP collection. For this we utilised the space created by the removal of much of the older unused paper EDC collection.

The Former EDC Office is now Taylor Library’s Floor 2 Inquiry Office - here we can provide help with:

  • General Library Information
  • Law Resources – electronic and paper
  • Official Publications resources - electronic and paper
  • Access to older formats such as Microfiche and CD Rom

We have a small Assistive Technology section on floor 1, equipped with a Book Magnifier which doubles as a split screen/second monitor for a Classroom PC. In addition to this there are headphones provided for use with the Claroread screen reading software.

We also now have a little breakout area beside our MFD section (opposite the main issue desk) with some comfy seating, plants and a bookshelf of non-study related books to read or swap!

Do come in and see all the improvements for yourself.
