Remaining questions on investment protection and investor-state dispute settlement within the EU legal order'
Investment protection and investor-state dispute settlement within the EU are undergoing a fundamental shift after the European Court of Justice ruled the bilateral investment treaties between the EU Member States to be in breach of EU law. The presentation will discuss the future of intra-EU investment law, the upcoming developments as well as remaining unclarities and the possible problems in the time after the bilateral investment treaties.
Katariina Särkänne is Lecturer in European law at the UEF Law School. Her research interest lies in the interface between EU law and international investment law and investment dispute settlement and she is working on her PhD in the field. Katariina has completed LL.M. at the University of Eastern Finland, UEF Law School, and M.Sc. (Econ. & Bus. Adm.) in Economics at the University of Jyväskylä School of Business and Economics, as well as held visiting PhD student positions at the European University Institute, Florence, and the University of Luxembourg.
